Study says half of immigrants around the world are Christians

A study released last Thursday by the Pew Forum for Religion andPublic Life says that most people living outside their country, worldwide, are Christians. The study behind the data, including the European Union, where debates about migration often focus on thearrival of Muslims.

The study shows that about 214 million people living outside theirnative country, and among these people about 106 million (49%)are Christians, and about 60 million (27%) are Muslims. Among Jews, only 3.6 million live outside their country Christmas. But that number represents 25% of the world's Jewish population, the highest proportion among all religions.

The study considered as emigrants in 2010 were people who hadmore than a year living in another country than their home country. The estimates also include figures on illegal immigrants and refugees permanent, as the Palestinians and their descendants.

The study also showed the main reasons for emigration: "Manyexperts believe that, in general terms, economic opportunities - better jobs and wages - are the largest individual motor of international migration," said the study, which states that "religionremains a factor in the decision of some people leave theirhomelands and their choices about where to go. "

Referring directly to European parties of the right to complain of an"invasion" Muslim, the study emphasizes that "... contrary to popular perception, immigrants outnumber Christians Muslim immigrants in the European Union as a whole."
